FITNET-NHS Study - overview

We have completed recruitment to the FITNET-NHS study. The study’s platform was decommissioned on 13/12/2021. Our final follow-up is expected on 11th February 2022 and the results will be published within a year of this date. Thank you for your interest in this study.

 FITNET-NHS Trial and COVID-19 - key messages:

  • The FITNET-NHS research trial has continued throughout the pandemic because the trial is about the digital delivery of specialist treatment.
  • This research trial is even more important in the current environment as more and more services are looking at how to deliver treatment online.
  • We also expect more children will have fatigue that needs treatment because of COVID-19

What is the FITNET-NHS study?

Most UK children with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME) have no access to local specialist treatment. FITNET-NHS tests the delivery of specialist one-to-one home treatments via the Internet, bringing treatment to families across the UK without the need for travel.

All young people (aged 11-17) who come into the trial are offered one of two treatments from a specialist at the Bath Paediatric CFS/ME Service:

  • FITNET-NHS, a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) program - delivered online
  • Activity Management - delivered via Skype
